Timing Actually Matters

If you think it doesn't matter what time you play ranked, think again. The time you queue up has a direct impact on match quality, matchmaking speed, and your odds of winning.

On the Latin American servers (LAN and LAS), this is even more relevant because the player base is smaller than servers like NA, EUW, or KR. Fewer players online means wider matchmaking, bigger skill gaps within the same team, and games that can feel like a coin flip.

If you want real-time data on when to play, check out our Best Time to Play tool. It shows you when matches tend to be more balanced based on actual data.

Peak Hours: 5 PM to 10 PM

The time window with the best match quality on LAN and LAS is typically between 5:00 PM and 10:00 PM (local time). During these hours:

  • More players are online, allowing matchmaking to create more balanced teams
  • The MMR spread is tighter, because there are enough players at each rank to create fair games
  • Queues are faster, especially at high ranks where off-peak times can mean 5-10 minute waits or longer
  • Less autofill, because there are enough players to cover all positions

This is the sweet spot. If you have limited time for ranked and want to make the most of every game, try to play during this window.

The Danger Zone: Late Night (11 PM Onward)

After 11 PM, match quality drops noticeably on LAN and LAS. There are several problems:

Fewer Players, Worse Matchmaking

With fewer players online, the system has to widen the MMR range it accepts to build teams. The result is games where you might have a Diamond playing with Golds, or an Emerald with Silver players. The system isn't broken; it just doesn't have enough options.

More Smurfs and Alt Accounts

Late night is the favorite time for players on smurf accounts. Many high-elo players log into their secondary accounts at these hours, which can massively distort games.

Accumulated Tilt

Players still online at 2 AM have probably been playing for hours. They're tired, frustrated, and more likely to play poorly or become toxic. Not the best environment for trying to climb.

Morning: A Gray Area

Morning hours (7 AM to 12 PM) on LAN and LAS are interesting. There are few players, but those who are online tend to be calmer and more focused. Games can be slower to find, but sometimes the quality is surprisingly good.

That said, matchmaking is still wider than during peak hours. If you're at a rank with few players (Master+), mornings can be problematic.

Weekend vs. Weekday

Weekdays

Weekdays have a clear pattern: low activity during the day (many players are at school or work), followed by a strong peak from 5 PM to 10 PM. This peak tends to offer the most balanced matches of the week.

Weekends

Saturdays and Sundays have more players online throughout the day, but also more casual players. This can make games more chaotic. The weekend peak is usually wider (2 PM to 11 PM), but quality can be a bit more inconsistent.

If you're looking for the most competitive matches, Tuesday through Thursday evenings tend to be ideal. Players online on weeknights tend to be more dedicated to ranked.

Differences Between LAN and LAS

LAN (Latin America North)

The LAN server covers Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean. Peak hours align with Mexico time (UTC-6). The player base is moderate, with good activity during evening hours.

LAS (Latin America South)

The LAS server primarily covers Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru, and other South American countries. Keep in mind that these countries span different time zones (from UTC-3 to UTC-5), which slightly widens the activity window but also spreads it out.

How to Use This Information

The most practical way to apply all of this is simple:

  1. Check Best Time to Play before queuing up. The tool gives you updated data on expected match quality for your time slot.
  2. If it's between 5 PM and 10 PM, go for it. This is your best window for ranked.
  3. If it's past 11 PM, think twice. If you're already tired or tilted, it's better to wait until tomorrow.
  4. Combine with Should I Queue to evaluate not just the time, but your mental state and recent streak.
  5. If you notice you're tilting, the Tilt Detector can give you an objective perspective before it's too late.

Timing isn't everything, but it can be the difference between a productive session and a frustrating loss streak. Play smart, play at the right hours, and your LP will thank you.
